Dr. Carl Russell received his specialty training in orthodontics at the Medical College of Georgia (MCG) in Augusta.  He is board certified in the specialty of orthodontics by the American Board of Orthodontics.  His dental school education is from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB).  He received the Doctor of Dental Medicine (in Latin that's DMD) degree from UAB in 1983.  He was awarded a 5-year post-doctoral fellowship at UAB in dental research.  As part of his post-doctoral dental research fellowship, he earned MS and PhD degrees in biostatistics from the Department of Biostatistics & Biomathematics at UAB. His undergraduate studies were in engineering and mathematics at M.I.T. and Auburn University.  He received a BS degree with highest honor from Auburn University in 1979.

He has had the unique opportunity to work  with medical and dental scientists in many research areas.  As a dental school professor and biostatistics consultant for many years, he was a coauthor for over 150 research publications presented at scientific meetings or published in medical or dental journals.  He currently enjoys reading the work of orthodontics researchers and applies these principles of orthodontics in the treatment of his patients.  His practice of orthodontics has been located in Hickory Flat for over 5 years.

Dr. Russell is a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, the Georgia Association of Orthodontists, the American Dental Association, and the Georgia Dental Association.
